What is First Nations Traditional Healing?
It is best explained as 'energy work'. It is a ten thousand year old healing modality that pulls negative energy out of a person. Because it is holistic, it covers body, mind and spirit, recognizing that all is connected and one affects the others. As a hands-on or hands-off or distance practise, the healer goes into a different realm to be able to access your energy. People who practise this must have training and guidance and they usually possess healing as a gift. Like all traditional 'medicines', it should be used as a compliment to Western medicine.
What is Hawaiian Lomi Lomi?
Lomi Lomi is the Hawaiian's traditional, sacred massage. While First Nations uses a smudge (the burning of sage, sweetgrass or other plants), Lomi Lomi uses Ti leaves and salt water. It is basically the same as First Nations but the way the hands traverse the body being healed is a bit different. And while First Nations uses prayer and chant during the healing, the Hawaiians chant in their own language.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of healing. Again, the basics are the same but the method is slightly different. Rei means God and Ki is like the Chinese Qi, which is our life force. All three modalities seek to restore balance, which is key to being able to let go of negative energy. These techniques channel the universal positive energy (also known as God, Buddha etc.) back into a person.
Do I have to take my clothes off?
No. It's your healing, so you have to be as comfortable as possible. Some people love disrobing, others don't. Either way or a compromise is fine.
What if it doesn't work?
That's dependant on you. If you're not ready to let go or our energies don't match then there's no sense continuing. It happens sometimes and you needn't be afraid to say you don't want anymore treatments. At the least, I can assure you will be relaxed afterwards, which is like the benefit of having had a massage.
What if it hurts?
It shouldn't, but sometimes us healers go in too deep and it's your responsibility to speak up. Usually we remember to ask if the depth of the touch is comfortable or not, but remember, it's your healing and up to you to let us know.
What am I supposed to do?
RELAX! I can help you to do this, but letting your mind go blank as though you were meditating is the best. You can pray for yourself too. If you don't know how to shut your mind off, I can guide you there. Otherwise, simply follow any instructions I give you (like dropping an arm or turning over).
How long will it take to be healed?
No one knows that answer. It may take several sessions or just one. After a treatment I like to do a phone follow up and we can assess from there. Everyone's different.
